A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

    Take Zolinza exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will instruct you on how much medication you should take and for how long. For additional instructions for use, carefully read the medication guide that accompanies your prescription.

    Recommended dosing: 400 mg by mouth one time a day with food. Dose adjustments may be required for patients who are intolerant to therapy or have liver problems.

    Store Zolinza capsules between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F).

    The active ingredient in Zolinza capsules is vorinostat.

    Inactive ingredients include microcrystalline cellulose, sodium croscarmellose, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, gelatin, and sodium lauryl sulfate.

    Cautions

    • Before you begin treatment with Zolinza, talk to your doctor about:
      • All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take
      • Your allergies
      • Your current health problems and past medical history
      • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
    • Zolinza is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
      • Blood clots in the veins or lungs
      • Reduced activity of the bone marrow, potentially causing low platelets and blood cell counts
      • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
      • High blood glucose levels
      • Abnormal electrolyte levels
      • Severely low platelet counts with bleeding in the stomach and intestines
      • Harm to an unborn baby. Females of childbearing potential should be advised to use effective contraceptive methods during Zolinza treatment and for 6 months or longer after receiving the last dose. Males with female partners who have the ability to reproduce should be advised to use effective contraceptive methods during Zolinza treatment and for 3 months or longer after receiving the last dose.
      • Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Zolinza and for one week or longer after receiving the last dose.

    Side Effects

    Diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, low platelets, anorexia, and altered taste are possible Zolinza side effects; however, other side effects may also occur. Immediately talk to your doctor about any side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
