Description
Zepatier (elbasvir and grazoprevir) is a prescription medication used to treat adults and pediatric patients who are at least 12 years old and weigh at least 30 kg with chronic hepatitis C virus genotype 1 or 4 infection. It may be used with ribavirin in certain patients.
Zepatier is available in an oral tablet containing 50 mg elbasvir and 100 mg grazoprevir.

Directions
Zepatier should be taken as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will determine an appropriate treatment regimen for you.
The recommended dose is to take one tablet by mouth once daily; take with or without food.
Keep Zepatier stored in the original packaging between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F).

Ingredients
The active ingredients in Zepatier include elbasvir and grazoprevir.
Inactive ingredients include colloidal silicon dioxide, copovidone, croscarmellose sodium, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium chloride, sodium lauryl sulfate, and vitamin E polyethylene glycol succinate. The film-coated tablets contain carnauba wax, ferrosoferric oxide, hypromellose, iron oxide red, iron oxide yellow, lactose monohydrate, titanium dioxide, and triacetin.
Contraindications
Patients with moderate to severe liver impairment should not take Zepatier.
Patients should not take OATP1B1/3 inhibitors that can significantly increase grazoprevir plasma concentrations, strong CYP3A4 inducers, and efavirenz while taking Zepatier. Ask your doctor whether you take these medications if you are unsure.
The contraindications to ribavirin also apply if you are also taking ribavirin. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about any contraindications you may have.
Cautions
- Zepatier contains the following FDA Boxed Warning:
- Reactivation of hepatitis B virus has been reported and has resulted in, in some cases, fulminant liver inflammation, liver failure, and death.
- Before you begin taking Zepatier, inform your doctor of:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Zepatier medication contains the following warnings and precautions:
- Risk of hepatitis B virus reactivation
- Elevated liver function test (ALT)
- Risk of liver decompensation or failure in patients with evidence of advanced liver disease
- If you are also taking ribavirin, its warnings and precautions also apply; talk to your doctor or pharmacist about ribavirin’s warnings and precautions
Side Effects
Headache, fatigue, and nausea are common Zepatier side effects; however, other side effects may also occur.
Immediately inform your doctor of any side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
