Directions
Zanidip should be taken as directed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended starting dose is 10 mg by mouth once daily. Take at least 15 minutes before a meal.
Your doctor may adjust your dose based on your response and tolerance to the medication.
Ingredients
Lercanidipine is the active ingredient in Zanidip.
Contraindications
Do not take Zanidip if you:
- Are allergic to any of its ingredients
- Have left ventricular outflow tract obstruction
- Have untreated congestive heart failure
- Have unstable chest pain
- Have had a heart attack within the past month
- Have severe liver problems
- Have severe kidney problems
Do not take Zanidip medication with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or cyclosporine; ask your doctor if you do not know if you take any of these medications.
Do not take Zanidip with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
Cautions
- Before you begin taking Zanidip, tell your doctor about:
- All the medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medications, herbal supplements, and vitamins
- Your allergies
- Your health conditions and past medical history
- Your pregnancy and breastfeeding status
- Patients with ischemic heart disease may be at increased risk for cardiovascular problems.
- Patients with left ventricular dysfunction should use Zanidip with caution.
- Patients with congestive heart failure should use Zanidip with caution.
- Patients with sick sinus syndrome without a pacemaker should use Zanidip with caution.
- Patients with liver or kidney problems should use Zanidip with caution.
Side Effects
Common Zanidip side effects include flushing, palpitations, rapid heart rate, dizziness, and headache; however, other side effects may also occur. Call your doctor immediately if you have side effects that bother you or won't go away.
