Description

Before you begin taking vitamin B12 supplements, talk to your doctor. Your doctor may want to check your vitamin B12 levels and can suggest the right dose for you.

- Too much vitamin B12 may cause low potassium levels and sudden death in patients with vitamin B12-deficient megaloblastic anemia.
- High platelet levels can occur with treatment of severe vitamin B12 megaloblastic anemia.
- Oral and nasal vitamin B12 should not be used to treat pernicious anemia until symptoms have resolved.
- Patients with Leber's optic atrophy should avoid products that contain cyanocobalamin; alternative therapy should be considered. Patients should talk to their doctor about treatment options.
Side Effects
Joint pain, dizziness, headache, and nasopharyngitis are some of the most common side effects caused by vitamin B12. If you have side effects that become bothersome or won’t go away, immediately call your doctor.
