Description
Tarpeyo (budesonide) is a prescription medication used to decrease the loss of kidney function in adults who have primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy and are at risk for disease progression.
Tarpeyo is available in 4 mg delayed release oral capsules.

Directions
Take Tarpeyo exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended dose is 16 mg by mouth every morning; take at least 1 hour before a meal.

Ingredients
The active ingredient in Tarpeyo is budesonide.
Inactive ingredients include sugar spheres (sucrose and starch), hypromellose, polyethylene glycol, citric acid monohydrate, ethyl cellulose, medium chain triglycerides and oleic acid. The capsule shells include hypromellose, and titanium oxide (E171); and the printing ink on the capsules include shellac, propylene glycol, and black iron oxide (E172). The capsules’ enteric coating include methacrylic acid, methacrylate copolymer, talc, and dibutyl sebacate.
Contraindications
Patients with an allergy to budesonide or to any of the other ingredients in Tarpeyo should not take it.
Cautions
- Before you start treatment with Tarpeyo, tell your doctor about:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Tarpeyo may cause hypercorticism, adrenal axis suppression, immunosuppression, or other corticosteroid effects.
Side Effects
Swelling, high blood pressure, muscle spasms, acne, headache, upper respiratory tract infection, facial swelling, weight gain, indigestion, dermatitis, joint pain, and increased white blood cell count are common Tarpeyo side effects. However, other side effects may also occur.
