A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

    Directions

    Take Tagrisso for lung cancer exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will determine an appropriate dose and treatment duration for you.

    The recommended dose is 80 mg by mouth one time a day; take with or without food.

    For further instructions for use, refer to the medication guide that accompanies your prescription.

    Ingredients

    The active ingredient in Tagrisso is osimertinib.

    Inactive ingredients include mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium stearyl fumarate, polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, macrogol 3350, talc, ferric oxide yellow, ferric oxide red, and ferric oxide black.

    Cautions

    • Before you begin taking Tagrisso, talk to your doctor about:

    • Tagrisso is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
      • Interstitial lung disease and pneumonitis
      • Prolongation of the QT interval, a type of abnormal heart rhythm
      • Cardiomyopathy
      • Keratitis, which is inflammation of the cornea of the eye
      • Severe skin disorders, such as Erythema Multiforme Major, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis
      • Cutaneous vasculitis
      • Aplastic anemia
      • Harm to an unborn baby. Females of childbearing potential are recommended to use effective contraceptive methods while receiving Tagrisso and for 6 weeks after taking the last dose. Males with female partners who are of childbearing potential are recommended to use effective contraceptive methods while receiving Tagrisso and for 4 months after taking the last dose.

    Side Effects

    Abnormal blood cell counts, anemia, rash, diarrhea, musculoskeletal pain, nail toxicity, fatigue, mouth swelling/sores, and dry skin are common Tagrisso side effects; however, other side effects can also occur. Immediately talk to your doctor about any side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
