What is a Generic Drug?
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Description
Supartz FX (sodium hyaluronate) is an injectable medication for treating pain caused by osteoarthritis of the knee in patients who did not respond well to conservative, non-pharmacologic therapy and simple pain relievers such as acetaminophen.
Directions
A qualified healthcare provider will administer Supartz FX via an intra-articular injection with strict aseptic techniques once weekly for 5 weeks (total of 5 injections). Three injections weekly may be beneficial in some patients.
Patients are recommended to avoid strenuous activities or prolonged weight-bearing activities 48 hours after Supartz FX administration.

Ingredients
The active ingredient in Supartz FX shots is sodium hyaluronate.
Contraindications
Supartz FX should not be administered to patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Supartz FX should not be administered to patients with infections or skin diseases in the area of injection site.
Cautions
- Before you begin receiving Supartz FX injections, tell your doctor about:
- All the medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Supartz FX contains the following warnings and precautions:
- Disinfectants that contain quaternary ammonium salts for preparing skin should not be used with Supartz FX, as sodium hyaluronate can precipitate.
- It is not established whether a single treatment cycle of less than 3 injections is effective.
- It is not established whether injecting Supartz FX in joints other than the knee is safe and effective.
- It is not established whether using Supartz FX injection with other intra-articular injectables is safe and effective.
- Caution should be exercised when administering Supartz FX to patients with allergies to avian proteins, feathers, and egg products.
Side Effects
Pain in the joints, problems with the joints, pain of the back, nonspecific pain, reactions at the injection site, headache, and pain at the injection site are some Supartz FX side effects; however, other side effects may also occur.
