Description
Somavert (pegvisomant), an injectable medication, is used to treat patients with acromegaly who did not respond well to surgery or radiation therapy or other therapies that were not appropriate. The goal of treatment with Somavert is to help insulin-like growth factor-1 levels in the blood achieve normal levels.
Somavert is available in single-dose vials containing 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, 25 mg, or 30 mg lyophilized powder for reconstitution.

Directions
Your doctor will determine an appropriate treatment regimen for you. A healthcare professional will instruct you or your caregiver on the proper storage, preparation, administration, and disposal of Somavert. The medication should be injected subcutaneously (underneath the skin) of the upper arm, thigh, abdomen, or buttocks; the injection site should be different with each injection.
Before reconstitution, Somavert should be stored in the refrigerator between 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F); avoid freezing. Keep the medication away from children.
Never reuse or share needles and syringes with others.

Ingredients
The active ingredient in Somavert is pegvisomant, including polyethylene glycol.
Inactive ingredients include glycine, mannitol, sodium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate, and sodium phosphate dibasic anhydrous.

Side Effects
Infection, pain, nausea, diarrhea, abnormal liver tests, flu syndrome, and injection site reactions are common side effects associated with Somavert; however, other side effects may also occur. Immediately inform your doctor of any side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
