Directions
Use Silvadene Cream 1% as directed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your doctor or pharmacy.
Apply the cream (about 1/16 inch in thickness) one to two times a day.
Your doctor will tell you how long you should use Silvadene Cream 1%.
Ingredients
Silver sulfadiazine is the active ingredient contained in Silvadene Cream 1%.
Contraindications
Patients who are allergic to silver sulfadiazine or to any of its other ingredients should not use the medication.
Silvadene Cream 1% should not be used on pregnant women who are close to or at term, premature infants, or newborn infants.
Cautions
- Before you begin using Silvadene Cream 1% for burns, tell your doctor about:
- Any medications you use, including other creams, lotions, or ointments
- Your allergies
- Your health conditions and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Absorption of Silvadene Cream 1% varies based on body surface area and tissue damage.
- Patients who are allergic to sulfonamides may develop a reaction to Silvadene Cream 1%.
- Fungal proliferation can occur in and below the dead tissue.
- Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency may need to avoid Silvadene Cream 1%, as hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells) can occur.
- Silvadene Cream 1% may need to be stopped in patients with liver and kidney problems.
- Do not get Silvadene Cream 1% in your eyes.
