Description
Siklos is prescribed to treat painful crises in people with sickle cell anemia who are two years of age or older. Sickle cell anemia is a disease of the red blood cells that cause them to be misshaped. Siklos works through several mechanisms to help restore red blood cells' proper functioning and shape.

Directions
The starting dosage is 20 mg per kilogram and may be increased as needed. If bone marrow suppression occurs, Siklos should be discontinued until blood counts return to an acceptable range.
Do not stop taking Sikos or change the dose without speaking with your doctor.
Ingredients
The active ingredient is hydroxyurea.
Siklos is available in 1000 mg and 100 mg tablets.

Cautions

The healthcare team should carefully monitor bone marrow function while taking this drug.
Siklos is harmful to a developing fetus. Use appropriate contraception while taking this drug.
