Description
Sandostatin (octreotide acetate) is an injectable medication that is prescribed to treat acromegaly, carcinoid tumors, and vasoactive intestinal peptide tumors.
Sandostatin injection is available in 50 mcg/mL, 100 mcg/mL, or 500 mcg/mL single-dose ampules.

Directions
Your doctor will determine an appropriate treatment regimen for you. Sandostatin may be given intravenously by a healthcare professional. It may also be given subcutaneously (underneath the skin).

Contraindications
Patients who are allergic to Sandostatin or to any of its components should not receive it.
Cautions
- Before you begin treatment with Sandostatin injection, talk to your doctor about:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Sandostatin may cause heart function abnormalities. Dose adjustments of heart medications may be required.
- Sandostatin may cause gallstones stones or complications of gallstones.
- Sandostatin may cause hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Thyroid levels should be periodically monitored.
- Sandostatin may cause low or high blood glucose levels. Monitoring is recommended. Adjustments of diabetes medications may be necessary.
Side Effects
Gallbladder abnormalities, low heart rate, diarrhea, loose stools, nausea, abdominal discomfort, high blood glucose, and hypothyroidism are some common Sandostatin side effects. However, other side effects may also occur. Immediately inform your doctor of any side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
