Description
Redesca HP is a medication that is injected subcutaneously to prevent blood clots that may form after orthopedic surgery of the hip or knee, high-risk abdominal, gynecological, or urological surgeries, colorectal surgery, or in patients who are at risk for blood clots. Redesca HP is also used to prevent blood clot formation in the extracorporeal circulation while receiving hemodialysis.
Additionally, Redesca HP is prescribed for treating blood clots, unstable angina and non-Q-wave myocardial infarction (with aspirin), and a form of a heart attack called acute ST-segment elevation of myocardial infarction (STEMI).
Redesca HP is available by prescription only.
Redesca HP comes in single-dose, prefilled syringes that contain protective needle shields. The syringes come in 120 mg/0.8 mL and 150 mg/mL.
Directions
Use Redesca HP as your doctor has instructed. Your prescription should contain specific instructions for safe use and should be carefully read. Any questions or concerns you have may be referred to your doctor or pharmacist.
Your doctor will determine an appropriate dosing regimen for you. Training on the proper preparation and administration of Redesca HP will be provided by your healthcare provider. You should also receive training on proper disposal of syringes and needles. Needles and syringes should not be shared with other people.
Redesca HP should be injected underneath the skin; it is recommended to inject into the fat of the lower abdomen at a site that is 5 centimeters or more away from your belly button and out toward your sides.
Store Redesca HP at temperatures that are lower than 25°C (77°F) but do not freeze. Store out of reach of children.
Ingredients
Enoxaparin is the active ingredient contained in Redesca HP. Water for injection is the inactive ingredient.
Contraindications
Do not use Redesca HP if you:
- Are allergic to the medication or to any of its ingredients
- Are allergic to heparin or any other low molecular weight heparins
- Have or have had heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (low platelets in the blood) within the past 100 days or if you have a positive in vitro platelet-aggregation test during enoxaparin treatment
- Have an active or subacute bacterial infection of the heart
- Have an active bleed
- Have a major blood clotting disorder
- Have a stomach or intestinal ulcer
- Have a hemorrhagic cerebrovascular accident
- Have severe uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Have eye problems associated with diabetes or bleeding
- Have other conditions or diseases that increase the risk of hemorrhage (bleeding)
- Have injuries or operations to the brain, spinal cord, eyes, or ears
- Have kidney or liver problems
- Have spinal or epidural anesthesia in which repeated doses of Redesca (1 mg/kg every 12 hours or 1.5 mg/kg once daily) are needed
Cautions
- Before you begin your Redesca HP regimen, discuss the following with your doctor:
- All the medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Side Effects
Bleeding, lab tests that are abnormal, headache, injection site pain or discoloration, bruising, stomach pain, and allergic reactions are some Redesca HP side effects.
