Description
Redesca (enoxaparin sodium) is an injectable medication that is prescribed to prevent blood clots that can occur following orthopedic hip or knee surgery, high-risk abdominal, gynecological, or urological surgeries, colorectal surgery, or in patients who are at risk for blood clots. It’s also used to prevent blood clot formations in the extracorporeal circulation during hemodialysis.
Redesca is also used to treat blood clots, unstable angina and non-Q-wave myocardial infarction (with aspirin), and a form of heart attack called acute ST-segment elevation of myocardial infarction (STEMI).
Redesca is available in single-dose, prefilled syringes with protective needle shields. The syringes come in the following strengths:
- 30 mg/0.3 mL
- 40 mg/0.4 mL
- 60 mg/0.6 mL
- 80 mg/0.8 mL
- 100 mg/mL
Redesca is also available in 300 mg/3 mL multiple-dose vials.
Directions
Use Redesca injection as directed by your doctor. Carefully read the leaflet that comes with your prescription for proper use information. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
Your doctor will determine an appropriate dose for you depending on the reason for needing Redesca. Your healthcare provider will teach you how to properly prepare and inject Redesca and how often you should inject it. You should also be trained on the appropriate disposal of syringes, vials, and needles. Never share or reuse needles.
Redesca is recommended to be injected underneath the skin into the fat of the lower abdomen. The injection site should be at least 5 centimeters away from your belly button and out toward the sides of your body.
Redesca should be stored below 25°C (77°F) but not frozen.
The multiple-dose vials should be properly discarded after 28 days from the first use.
Keep all medications away from children.
