Description
Opdivo (nivolumab) is a medication used to treat certain types of cancer, including:
- Melanoma
- Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
- Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma
- Advanced Kidney Cancer
- Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma
- Head and Neck Squamous Cell Cancer
- Bladder or Urinary Tract Cancer (Urothelial)
- Colorectal Cancer
- Advanced Liver Cancer
- Gastric, Gastroesophageal Junction, and Esophageal Cancers
Directions
Your healthcare provider will determine an appropriate treatment regimen for you based on your age, weight, medical conditions, and type of cancer you have. Blood tests will also be checked by your healthcare provider.
Your healthcare provider will administer Opdivo intravenous infusion.

Ingredients
Nivolumab is the active ingredient in Opdivo. The inactive ingredients include mannitol, pentetic acid, polysorbate 80, sodium chloride, sodium citrate dihydrate, and Water for Injection. Opdivo may also contain hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide.
Contraindications
There are no contraindications to Opdivo per the most recent Prescribing Information. However, talk to your healthcare provider about a treatment regimen that is best for you.
Cautions
- Before you start treatment with Opdivo, consult with your healthcare provider about:
- All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Immune system problems that can be severe or result in death may occur.
- Infusion-related reactions may occur.
- Serious and potentially fatal complications may occur in patients who receive a stem cell transplant that uses donor stem cells (allogeneic) before or after receiving Opdivo.
- Opdivo use can cause harm to an unborn baby. Effective contraception should be used.
- Women should not breastfeed while being treated with Opdivo.
- Patients with multiple myeloma should not receive Opdivo in combination with a thalidomide analogue plus dexamethasone unless they are part of a controlled clinical trial.
Side Effects
Fatigue; rash; muscle, bone, and joint pain; itchy skin; diarrhea; nausea; weakness; cough; vomiting; shortness of breath; constipation; decreased appetite; back pain; upper respiratory tract infection; fever; headache; stomach pain; and urinary tract infection are some common Opdivo side effects. However, other side effects can also occur. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
