Description
People with diabetes often need to measure their blood sugar to prevent their blood sugar from becoming too high or too low. One Touch Verio is a device called a glucometer that can measure blood sugar.
People with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and some with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus need to regularly measure their blood sugar. Blood sugar readings can tell a person how well their medication is working if they have taken too much.
Directions
If you are using a glucometer, your doctor will tell you how many times you need to measure per day. The normal frequency is between one to four times daily.
- Alcohol pads
- Lancets
- One Touch Verio device
- One Touch Verio test strips
- One Touch Verio control solution
When you first receive a glucometer, ask your doctor or pharmacist to show you how it works.
Your doctor should determine the high and low limits of your blood sugar. For most people, the low is 70 mg/dL, and the high is 180 mg/dL. The One Touch Verio comes preset with these limits.
Cautions
Talk to your doctor before making any changes to your diabetes regimen.
Wash the testing site with soap and warm water before puncturing the skin.
Never share the lancing device and never use it more than once.
Your blood sugar readings may be falsely low if you are dehydrated.
If you get several unexpected blood sugar readings, use the control solution to ensure the device is calibrated.
Check the expiration date on the test strips and control solution before use.
