Description
Novatears is a prescription evaporative dry eye disease treatment medication. The eyedrops lubricate the surface of the eye and promote better lipid layer stability for the tear film so that tears do not evaporate as quickly. The active ingredient in Novatears eye drops is Perfluorohexyloctane, an amphiphilic liquid with very low surface tension and viscosity that is superior to saline liquid for providing relief for dry eyes with better promotion of tear film thickness and lipid layer thickness.
What is Evaporative Dry Eye Disease?
Evaporative dry eye disease is a condition where tears evaporate too quickly and the eyeball is insufficiently lubricated as a result of it. It is caused by lack of oil production in the tear film, and without the right amount of oil in the tears they evaporate much more speedily. This happens when the meibomian glands on the edge of your eyelids are not functioning properly because they have become clogged.
This type of dry eye disease is more common in older people, and women are more often affected by it than men. It is also seen more commonly in diabetics and people with oily skin conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions about NovaTears
What are NovaTears eye drops used for?
NovaTears eye drops are used for the relief of symptoms associated with dry eye disease, including irritation, burning, and dryness. They are designed to lubricate and protect the surface of the eye.
What is the mechanism of action of NovaTears?
NovaTears works by forming a lubricating, water-free layer on the surface of the eye. This layer stabilizes the lipid layer of the tear film, reducing evaporation of the underlying aqueous layer and providing long-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms.
How long do NovaTears last?
The duration of action for NovaTears can vary, but they are generally formulated to provide lasting relief from dry eye symptoms. The effects can last several hours, depending on the severity of the condition and environmental factors.
What ingredient is in NovaTears?
The active ingredient in NovaTears is perfluorohexyloctane. This compound is a highly purified, semi-fluorinated alkane.
What are the side effects of perfluorohexyloctane?
Side effects of perfluorohexyloctane are generally rare but may include temporary blurred vision, mild eye irritation, or a sensation of burning or stinging upon application.
How do you use NovaTears?
To use NovaTears, tilt your head back slightly, pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and apply one drop into the pocket. Close your eyes for a minute or two to allow the drop to spread evenly over the surface of the eye. Do not touch the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
Can you get NovaTears on prescription?
NovaTears is typically available over the counter without a prescription in many regions. However, availability may vary depending on local regulations, so it’s best to check with a pharmacy or healthcare provider.
Are NovaTears good for dry eyes?
Yes, NovaTears are considered effective for providing relief from dry eye symptoms. Their unique formulation helps to stabilize the tear film and reduce tear evaporation, which can significantly alleviate the discomfort associated with dry eyes.
How does perfluorohexyloctane work?
Perfluorohexyloctane works by forming a stable, lubricating layer on the surface of the eye. This layer mimics the natural lipid layer of the tear film, reducing evaporation of the aqueous layer underneath and thereby maintaining moisture on the ocular surface. This helps to alleviate symptoms of dryness and irritation.
