Description
Norliqva FDA-approval: Norliqva (amlodipine) is an oral solution prescribed to treat high blood pressure in adults and children who are 6+ years old. It may also be used to treat coronary artery disease (chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina [Prinzmetal’s or Variant Angina], angiographically documented coronary artery disease in patients who do not have heart failure or an ejection fraction <40%).
Norliqva comes in 1 mg/mL oral solution.
Directions
Take Norliqva exactly as prescribed by the treating physician.
Recommended starting dosage:
- Adults: 5 mg by mouth one time a day; maximum 10 mg by mouth daily. Adult patients who are small, fragile, elderly, or have liver impairment may be started on 2.5 mg by mouth one time a day
- Pediatrics: 2.5 mg to 5 mg by mouth one time a day
Norliva should be stored between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F).

Ingredients
The active ingredient in Norliqva is amlodipine.
Inactive ingredients include butylated hydroxyanisole, ethanol, glycerin, maltitol, and peppermint flavor. Norliqva also contains 4% v/v alcohol.
Contraindications
Norliqva should not be administered to patients who are allergic to amlodipine.
Cautions
- Before you or your child begins taking Norliqva, talk to the treating physician:
- About all the medications you or your child takes, including prescription and over-the-counter medications
- About your or your child’s allergies
- About your or your child’s current health problems and past medical history
- If you or your child are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Norliqva contains the following warnings and precautions:
- Low blood pressure that is symptomatic
- Worsening chest pain and acute heart attack after starting or increasing the Norliqva dose, especially in patients who have obstructive coronary artery disease
- Norliqva should be slowly titrated in patients with severe liver impairment.
Side Effects
Edema (swelling), dizziness, flushing, and palpitations are the most common Norliqva side effects; however, other side effects may also occur.
Contact a doctor right away if you or your child develop side effects that become bothersome or won’t go away.
