Description
Your doctor may prescribe Mytesi to treat non-infectious diarrhea in adult patients who have Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) from HIV. The patient must be on antiretroviral therapy.
Mytesi works by inhibiting a protein in the intestines called cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-stimulated cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) chloride ion channel. It also blocks calcium-activated chloride ion channels in the enterocyte luminal membrane.
People with HIV/AIDS infection are at high risk for side effects like diarrhea when taking antiretrovirals. These types of medications are used to control HIV/AIDS infection.
