Description
Mavyret (glecaprevir and pibrentasvir) is a prescription medication used to treat adults and pediatric patients who are at least 3 years of age with a certain chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype infection with or without compensated cirrhosis or with HCV genotype 1 infection who was previously treated with either an HCV NS5A inhibitor OR an NS3/4A protease inhibitor.
Mavyret is available in an oral tablet containing 100 mg glecaprevir and 40 mg pibrentasvir. It is also available in oral pellets containing 50 mg glecaprevir and 20 mg pibrentasvir.

Mavyret should be taken as directed by the prescribing doctor, who will determine an appropriate treatment regimen based on the age and weight of the patient.

Inactive ingredients in the tablets include colloidal silicon dioxide, copovidone (type K 28), croscarmellose sodium, hypromellose 2910, iron oxide red, lactose monohydrate, polyethylene glycol 3350, propylene glycol monocaprylate (type II), sodium stearyl fumarate, titanium dioxide, and vitamin E (tocopherol) polyethylene glycol succinate.
Inactive ingredients in the oral pellets include colloidal silicon dioxide, copovidone (type K 28), croscarmellose sodium, hypromellose 2910, iron oxide red, iron oxide yellow, lactose monohydrate, polyethylene glycol/macrogol 3350, propylene glycol monocaprylate (type II), sodium stearyl fumarate, titanium dioxide, and vitamin E (tocopherol) polyethylene glycol succinate.
Contraindications
Patients with moderate or severe liver impairment or who have had liver decompensation should not take Mavyret.
Patients should not take Mavyret with atazanavir or rifampin.
Cautions
- Mavyret contains the following FDA Boxed Warning:
- Reactivation of hepatitis B virus has been reported and has resulted in, in some cases, fulminant liver inflammation, liver failure, and death.
- Before you or your child starts treatment with Mavyret, tell the doctor about:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you or your child takes
- You or your child’s allergies
- You or your child’s current health problems and past medical history
- You or your child’s pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Mavyret medication contains the following warnings and precautions:
- Risk of hepatitis B virus reactivation
- Risk of liver decompensation or failure in patients with evidential advanced liver disease
Side Effects
Headache and fatigue are the most common Mavyret side effects; however, other side effects may also occur.
Immediately inform your doctor of any side effects that bother you or your child or won’t go away.
