Directions
Lotemax SM is available as a sterile preserved gel for use in the eye only.
Before instilling the gel into the eye, turn the closed bottle upside down and shake once to fill the tip.
Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) three times a day for two weeks beginning the day after surgery.
Ingredients
Each gram of gel contains 3.8 mg of loteprednol etabonate.
Contraindications
Do not use Lotemax SM if you have a viral eye disease or a bacterial or fungal eye infection.
Cautions
- Before you start using Lotemax SM eye gel, inform your doctor:
- About your allergies
- About all the medications you take, including other eye drops or eye gels
- About your health conditions
- If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
- If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
- Using Lotemax SM for a long time can increase your risk for glaucoma or other vision problems. Your intraocular pressure should be checked if you use Lotemax SM for more than 10 days.
- Tell your doctor if you have cataracts.
- Lotemax SM may prolong healing time and increase the risk for bleb formation after cataract surgery.
- Using Lotemax SM for a long time can increase the risk for secondary eye infections and mask or worsen active purulent infections.
- Using Lotemax SM for a long time can lengthen the course of or worsen the symptoms of viral eye infections, including herpes simplex.
- Using Lotemax SM for a long time can increase your risk for fungal eye infections.
- You should not wear contact lenses when your eyes are inflamed.
Side Effects
Lotemax SM may cause blurry vision, light sensitivity, eye swelling, or eye redness.
Contact your doctor right away if you experience bothersome or persistent side effects.
