Description
Lipidil EZ is a prescription medication used with diet and lifestyle changes to reduce cholesterol and blood fat levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Patients with mixed hyperlipidemia, a type of high cholesterol, generally take Lipidil EZ with ezetimibe.
Lipidil EZ is available in 48 mg and 145 mg film-coated tablets for oral use.
Directions
Take Lipidil EZ exactly as your doctor has prescribed. Refer any questions or concerns to your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended Lipidil EZ dosage is 145 mg by mouth once daily with a whole glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. The medication may be taken with or without food.
Elderly patients and patients with kidney problems are recommended to take a lower dose of 48 mg by mouth once daily.
Ingredients
Fenofibrate is the active ingredient contained in Lipidil EZ.
Colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, docusate sodium, D and C Yellow #10 Aluminum Lake (48 mg tablet), FD and C yellow #6/sunset yellow FCF Aluminum Lake (48 mg tablet), FD and C Blue #2/Indigo carmine FCF Aluminum Lake (48 mg tablet), hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, soybean lecithin, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide, xanthan gum are the inactive ingredients included in the tablets.
Contraindications
Lipidil EZ should not be given to patients with severe liver or kidney problems, gallbladder problems, or pancreatitis.
Lipidil EZ should not be given to patients who are allergic to the medication or to any of its ingredients.
Patients who are allergic to peanuts, arachis oil, soya lecithin, lactose or related products should not take Lipidil EZ.
Patients who are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or planning to become pregnant should not take Lipidil EZ.
Patients who are breastfeeding should not take Lipidil EZ.
Patients who are sensitive to the sun or UV light when taking a fibrate or an anti-inflammatory medication called ketoprofen should not take Lipidil EZ.
Patients who are taking statins and have muscle problems or risk of muscle problems should avoid Lipidil EZ.
Patients who are younger than 18 years old should not take Lipidil EZ.
Cautions
- Before you begin treatment with Lipidil EZ, talk to your doctor:
- About all the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
- About your allergies
- About your health history and current medical problems
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Lipidil EZ can cause severe muscle problems, which can result in kidney problems or death. Patients should contact their doctor right away if they develop muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially in the presence of a fever.
Side Effects
Lipidil EZ side effects include stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, gas, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, fatigue, trouble sleeping, low sex drive, skin problems, hair loss, weight loss, and joint pain; however, these are not all the side effects that can occur.
