Description
Levlen ED (ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel) is a birth control pill taken to prevent pregnancy.
Directions
Take Levlen ED exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Carefully read the product label and information leaflet that comes with your prescription. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Storing Levlen ED:
Store Levlen ED tablets in the blister pack at temperatures below 25°C (77°F). Keep the medication out of reach of children.
Ingredients
The beige active Levlen ED tablets contain 30 mcg of ethinylestradiol and 150 mcg of levonorgestrel. Inactive ingredients include calcium carbonate, glycerol, glycol montanate, iron oxide yellow, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, maize starch, povidone, purified talc, sucrose, and titanium dioxide.
The white inactive Levlen ED tablets include calcium carbonate, glycol montanate, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, maize starch, povidone, purified talc, and sucrose.
Contraindications
Patients with any of the following should not take Levlen ED:
- An allergy to any of Levlen ED’s ingredients
- Have or have had a blood clot or if you are at increased risk of blood clots
- Hepatitis C and are taking medications that contain glecaprevir, pibrentasvir, sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and/or dasabuvir
- Have or have had blood clotting problems
- A confirmed blood test indicating increased homocysteine antiphospholipid antibodies and lupus anticoagulant. Your blood clot or miscarriage risk can be increased by these.
- Undergoing major surgery that requires you to remain immobile for a prolonged duration
- Chest pain
- Mini stroke
- Migraine with vision problems, speaking problems, weakness, or numbness
- Risk of blood clots associated with diabetes with blood vessel damage, severe high blood pressure, or abnormal level of fats in your blood
- Pancreatitis
- Severe liver problems
- Malignant or benign liver tumors
- Hormone-dependent cancers
- Vaginal bleeding with no known cause
- Pregnancy or suspect pregnancy
Cautions
- Before you begin treatment with Levlen ED birth control, talk to your doctor about:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- Your smoking status
- If you have a personal or family history of blood clots, heart attack, stroke, breast cancer, or high cholesterol
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
Side Effects
Nausea, stomach pain, weight changes, headache, mood changes, and breast discomfort are common Levlen ED side effects. However, other side effects may also occur. Immediately inform your doctor of any side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
