What is a Generic Drug?
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Description
Lastacaft (alcaftadine ophthalmic solution) 0.25% eye drops are used to alleviate itchy eyes caused by allergies in adults and pediatric patients who are at least 2 years old.
Lastacaft comes in 5 mL bottles.
Directions
Use Lastacaft as instructed on the package or as directed by your doctor. You may refer any questions or concerns to your doctor or pharmacist.
Recommended Lastacaft eye drops dosage: Place one drop in the affected eye(s) one time a day.
To avoid contamination, do not let the tip of the bottle touch any surface.
Take out your contact lenses before using Lastacaft. You may reinsert them 10 minutes after using the eye drops.
If you are also using other eye drops or ointments, wait at least 5 minutes between each product.
Ingredients
Alcaftadine, an antihistamine, is the active ingredient in Lastacaft eye drops.
Inactive ingredients include benzalkonium chloride 0.005%, edetate disodium, monobasic sodium phosphate, purified water, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, and/or hydrochloric acid.
Contraindications
Do not use Lastacaft if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or if the solution appears cloudy or changes color. Do not use Lastacaft to treat irritation from contact lenses.
Cautions
- Before you start using Lastacaft, tell your doctor about:
- All the prescription and nonprescription medications you use, including other eye products
- Your allergies
- Your current health conditions and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Lastacaft is for use in the eye only.
Side Effects
Stop using Lastacaft and contact your doctor right away if you have eye pain, vision changes, increased redness of the eye, or eye itchiness that gets worse or lasts longer than 72 hours.
