Description
Lagevrio (molnupiravir) is authorized for use under an Emergency Use Authorization to treat adults with mild to moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Lagevrio comes in 200 mg oral capsules.
Directions
Take Lagevrio exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
The dose of Lagevrio is 800 mg (or four 200 mg capsules) by mouth every 12 hours for 5 days. You may take the medication with or without food.
Ingredients
Molnupiravir is the active ingredient in Lagevrio.
Contraindications
Contraindications have not been identified, as there is limited data available.
Cautions
- Before you start taking Lagevrio, talk to your doctor about:
- All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take. There have not been any Lagevrio drug interactions identified based on the limited data that is available.
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Pregnant patients are not advised to take Lagevrio, as harm to an unborn baby may occur. Benefits must outweigh the risks before a pregnant patient is prescribed Lagevrio. If a pregnant patient is prescribed Lagevrio, the healthcare provider should document it in a pregnancy registry that monitors pregnancy outcomes in patients taking Lagevrio.
- Patients of childbearing age should be educated on the potential risk to an unborn baby and be advised to use effective birth control methods during treatment and for 4 days after taking the last dose.
- Pregnancy should be confirmed before treatment is started.
- Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have occurred during Lagevrio treatment. Lagevrio should be stopped once an allergic reaction occurs.
- Lagevrio is not authorized for use in patients younger than 18 years old, as it may affect the growth of bone and cartilage. The safety and efficacy of Lagevrio has not been determined in pediatric patients.
Side Effects
Diarrhea, nausea, and dizziness are common Lagevrio side effects. Other side effects can occur. Tell your doctor right away if you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
