Isopto Atropine (atropine sulfate ophthalmic solution) 1% is an eye drop used to dilate the pupils during eye examinations and eye surgeries, temporarily paralyze the muscles of the eyes that keep objects in focus, and aid in the treatment of lazy eye.

Directions
Use Isopto Atropine 1% exactly as your doctor has prescribed. Refer any questions or concerns to your doctor or pharmacist.
Recommended dosage for patients who are least three months old:
Place one drop into the eye(s) forty minutes before the intended maximal dilation time.
For patients who are at least three years old, the dose may be repeated up to two times a day as needed.
Store Isopto Atropine 1% eye drops between 36°F and 77°F.
Ingredients
Atropine sulfate monohydrate is the active ingredient in Isopto Atropine 1% ophthalmic solution. Benzalkonium chloride 0.01% is added as a preservative, and hypromellose, boric acid, sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid (to adjust pH), and purified water are the inactive ingredients included.
Contraindications
Do not use Isopto Atropine 1% eye drops if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Cautions
- Before you start using Isopto Atropine 1%, talk to your doctor about:
- All the prescription and nonprescription medications you use, including other eye drops or ointments
- Your allergies
- Your health conditions and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Do not drive or participate in hazardous activities while your pupils are dilated.
- Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun or bright lights, as blurry vision and sensitivity can occur.
- You may feel drowsy.
- To avoid contamination, do not let the tip of the dispenser touch any surface.
- Blood pressure can increase.
- Certain central nervous system conditions including Down syndrome, spastic paralysis, or brain damage can make a patient more susceptible to adverse drug reactions.
Side Effects
The most common side effects caused by Isopto Atropine 1% include eye pain and stinging, blurry vision, sensitivity to light, inflammation of the cornea, decreased tear secretion, drowsiness, increased heart rate, and increased blood pressure. However, these are not the only side effects that can occur. Inform your doctor right away of any bothersome or persistent side effects that develop.
