What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

    Directions

    Take Inofolic as directed by your doctor. Carefully read the information that comes with the product. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any questions or concerns you may have about the medication.

    Recommended dosing: Take 2 capsules by mouth once daily OR take 1 capsule by mouth every 12 hours. Take without food.

    Ingredients

    Each softgel capsule contains 600 mg of myo-inositol and 200 mcg of folic acid (folate). Inactive ingredients include soya oil, lecithin, medium-chain triglycerides, polyglyceryl-10 oleate, mono- and di- glycerides of fatty acids, gelatin, glycerin, and iron oxides.

    Contraindications

    There are no contraindications to Inofolic listed in the patient leaflet. However, patients should talk with their doctor before they start taking Inofolic.

    Cautions

    • Before you start taking Inofolic, talk to your doctor about:
      • All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take, including herbals, vitamins, and supplements
      • Your allergies
      • Your current health problems and past medical history
      • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
    • Do not take more than the recommended daily dose.
    • Dietary supplements are not intended to take the place of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

    Side Effects

    Supplementing with folate can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure whether you are taking enough vitamin B12. Contact your doctor right away if you have Inofolic side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
