Cautions
- Low blood sugar is the most common side effect of insulin. Blood glucose monitoring is recommended for all diabetic patients. Low blood sugar that is not treated can cause unconsciousness, coma, or even death.
- Humalog Mix25 is different from other insulins and works quickly; therefore, it should be administered within 15 minutes before a meal.
- Humalog Mix25 appears as a white suspension and should be given by subcutaneous injection only. Humalog Mix25 should not be given intravenously.
- Any change of insulin regimen should be made with caution and under medical supervision. Purity, strength, brand, type, species, and/or method of manufacture changes may result in the need for a dose change.
- Mixing Humalog Mix25 with other insulins is not recommended.
- Patients using Humalog Mix25 may need a dose adjustment.
- Before you begin using Humalog Mix25, inform your doctor of:
- All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health conditions and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Diabetic acidosis and coma can occur if your body doesn’t have enough insulin.
- Depression in the skin, thickening of tissue, or skin lumps can occur with the subcutaneous administration of insulin. Tell your doctor right away if you develop any of these effects.
Side Effects
Low blood sugar and redness, swelling, and itching at the injection site are possible side effects that can occur; however, other side effects may also occur. Contact your doctor right away if you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
