Description
Your doctor may prescribe Flomax MR, which is a modified-release medication designed to alleviate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a condition in which the prostate gland is enlarged, causing urinary difficulties.
Tamsulosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker class that relaxes the prostate and bladder neck muscles, improving urine flow and reducing symptoms such as difficulty starting urination, weak stream, and frequent or urgent urination.

Directions
The usual dosage is 0.4 mg by mouth once daily. The capsule should not be opened, crushed, or chewed but swallowed whole.
Do not stop or start this drug without speaking with your doctor first.

Cautions
Flomax MR can cause dizziness and fainting, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you understand how Flomax MR affects you.
Inform the healthcare provider of any planned cataract or glaucoma surgery, as tamsulosin can affect pupil dilation during these procedures.
Flomax MR should be used with caution in patients with a history of low blood pressure or those susceptible to orthostatic hypotension, a condition where blood pressure drops significantly upon standing.
