Description
Ferrous sulfate is an iron supplement prescribed to treat iron deficiency anemia. This condition arises from insufficient iron levels in the body, leading to reduced oxygen-carrying capacity in the blood, resulting in symptoms like fatigue, pallor, and weakness.
Ferrous sulfate contains ferrous ions, which are absorbable iron forms that replenish iron stores in the body. It is available in various formulations, including tablets and liquid preparations, to accommodate individual preferences and tolerances.
Ferrous sulfate is given to patients with documented iron deficiency or iron-deficiency anemia. Pregnant individuals, who often require additional iron to support fetal development, may also be prescribed ferrous sulfate.
