A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

    Description

    Eurax Cream (crotamiton) 10% w/w, is a prescription topical cream used to relieve itching and skin irritation for up to 6-10 hours caused by sunburn, eczema, dermatitis, allergic rashes, hives, nettle rash, chickenpox, insect bites/stings, heat rashes, and personal itching. It is also used to treat scabies.

    Eurax Cream is dispensed in tubes of 20 grams, 30 grams, or 100 grams.

    Directions

    Eurax Cream should be applied as directed by your doctor. The cream should be applied only to the skin; do not get the cream in your eyes or ears. Apply with clean hands; wash hands thoroughly after use.

    You may refer to the medication leaflet that comes with your prescription for further instructions for use.

    Store below 25°C (77°F) and out of children’s reach. Use within 12 months of opening and do not use past the expiration date.

    Ingredients

    The active ingredient in Eurax Cream is crotamiton.

    Inactive ingredients include methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218), phenylethyl alcohol, glycerol, triethanolamine, sodium lauryl sulphate, ethylene glycol monostearate, stearyl alcohol, strong ammonia solution, stearic acid, hard paraffin, white beeswax, purified water, and perfume (contains: geraniol, citronellol, coumarin, benzyl alcohol (0.0187%), benzyl benzoate (0.0047%), citral, d-limonene, eugenol, linalool).

    Contraindications

    Patients with a weeping skin condition or an allergy to crotamiton or to any of the other ingredients in Eurax Cream should not use it.

    Cautions

    • Before you begin using Eurax Cream, talk to your doctor about:
      • All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take, including other topical medications
      • Your allergies
      • Your current health problems and past medical history
      • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
    • Do not use Eurax Cream on broken skin.
    • Consult your doctor if you have genital itching.
    • Eurax Cream may be used for children; however, it should only be used under medical supervision for children younger than 3 years of age.
    • Avoid smoking or going near naked flames due to the risk of severe burns. Fabric that has been in contact with Eurax Cream burns more easily, resulting in a serious fire hazard. Washing may not completely remove product buildup.
    • Stearyl alcohol and methyl hydroxybenzoates are contained in Eurax Cream, which can cause local skin or allergic reactions. Fragrances in Eurax Cream, including geraniol, citronella, coumarin, benzyl alcohol, benzyl benzoate, citral, d-limonene, eugenol, and linalool, can also cause allergic reactions.
    • Discomfort may be experienced in patients with sensitive skin.
    • Use of Eurax Cream should be stopped if irritation or other unwanted side effects occur.

    Side Effects

    Breathing difficulties; swelling of the face, tongue, or throat; and skin rash/irritation are possible Eurax Cream side effects; however, other side effects may also occur.

    Immediately contact your doctor if you experience side effects that bother you or persist.
