A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

    Description

    Eucreas (vildagliptin/metformin) is a combination medication used with diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes in adults.

    Eucreas is available in oral tablets of 50 mg vildagliptin/850 mg metformin and 50 mg vildagliptin/1000 mg metformin.

    Directions

    Take Eucreas as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

    Your doctor will determine an appropriate dose for you. The recommended dose is to take one tablet by mouth twice daily. You may take it with or after food to reduce getting an upset stomach.

    Ingredients

    The active ingredients in Eucreas are vildagliptin and metformin.

    Contraindications

    Patients with any of the following should not take Eucreas:

    • An allergy to any of its ingredients
    • Certain kidney, liver, or heart problems or at risk of acid buildup in the blood (metabolic acidosis)
