Description
Edarbyclor (azilsartan medoxomil and chlorthalidone) is a medication available by prescription only to treat high blood pressure.
Edarbyclor oral tablets come in the following strengths:
- 40 mg azilsartan/12.5 mg chlorthalidone
- 40 mg azilsartan/25 mg chlorthalidone
Directions
Take Edarbyclor exactly as your doctor has prescribed. If you have any questions or concerns about the medication, reach out to your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended starting dose of Edarbyclor is 40 mg/12.5 mg by mouth one time a day. The doctor may decide to increase the dose as necessary, up to a maximum dose of 40 mg/25 mg, to achieve goal blood pressure.
Edarbyclor may be used with other blood pressure lowering medications.
Ingredients
Each Edarbyclor tablet contains azilsartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and chlorthalidone, a thiazide-like diuretic.
Inactive ingredients include mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, fumaric acid, sodium hydroxide, hydroxypropyl cellulose, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, hypromellose 2910, talc, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide red, polyethylene glycol 8000, and printing ink gray F1.
Contraindications
Patients whose kidneys are unable to produce urine should not take Edarbyclor.
Diabetic patients should not use Edarbyclor with products that contain aliskiren.
Cautions
Edarbyclor has an FDA Boxed Warning against its use in pregnancy. Edarbyclor can cause harm to an unborn baby. Once pregnancy is detected, Edarbyclor should be stopped.
- Before you begin treatment with Edarbyclor, tell your doctor:
- About all the medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- About your allergies.
- About your current health problems and past medical history.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Patients who are volume- or salt-depleted and are taking Edarbyclor may experience blood pressure that is excessively low.
- Kidney failure can occur in patients who are taking Edarbyclor and have narrowing arteries in the kidney.
- Kidney function should be monitored, especially in patients with kidney problems, during treatment with Edarbyclor.
- Electrolytes in the blood should also be monitored periodically while being treated with Edarbyclor.
Side Effects
Dizziness and fatigue are common Edarbyclor medication side effects. However, these are not all the side effects that can occur. Contact your doctor right away if you have side effects that bother you or won’t resolve.
