What is a Generic Drug?
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description
Daflon uses: Daflon (micronized purified flavonoid fraction) is a medication used to treat symptoms of venolymphatic insufficiency such as heavy legs, pain, and early morning restless legs. It is also used to treat functional symptoms of an acute hemorrhoidal attack.
Daflon comes in 500 mg oral tablets.
Directions
Daflon should be taken as directed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns about the medication, contact your doctor or pharmacy.
Recommended dose for symptoms of venolymphatic insufficiency:
Take 2 tablets by mouth daily in two divided doses, with lunch and at dinner.
Recommended dose for acute hemorrhoidal attack:
Take 6 tablets by mouth daily for the first 4 days, then take 4 tablets by mouth daily for 3 days.
Ingredients
Each Daflon 500 mg tablet contains 450 mg diosmin (90%) and 50 mg flavonoids expressed as hesperidin (10%).
Contraindications
There are no contraindications per the Summary of Product Characteristics.

- Before you start treatment with Daflon, discuss the following with your doctor:
- All the medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health conditions and past medical history
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Taking Daflon for an acute hemorrhoidal attack is not a substitute for the specific treatment of other anal problems and should only be used short-term. Contact your doctor if symptoms do not improve.
Side Effects
Minor gastrointestinal and neurovegetative disorders may occur with Daflon use. Call your doctor right away if you have bothersome or persistent side effects.
