Description
Ciloxan (ciprofloxacin 0.3%) ear drops are used to treat inflammation of the outer ear canal.
Directions
Use Ciloxan ear drops exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your doctor or pharmacy.
Your doctor will tell you how often you should use the ear drops and for how long.
Generally, the Ciloxan ear drops dosage is to place 3-4 drops in the outer ear duct 2-4 times a day. Duration of treatment is usually 5-10 days.
Ingredients
The antimicrobial ciprofloxacin is the active ingredient in Ciloxan. Benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, mannitol, acetic acid, sodium acetate trihydrate, hydrochloric acid and / or sodium hydroxide for pH balance, and purified water are the excipients contained.
Contraindications
Patients who are allergic to Ciloxan or any of its excipients or to other quinolones should not use the medication.
Cautions
- Before you start using Ciloxan, tell your doctor about:
- All the medications you use, including other ear drops
- Your allergies
- Your current health conditions and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Serious allergic reactions can occur. Seek emergency care right away if you have trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, a rapid heart rate, a rash, or any other sign or symptom of an allergic reaction.
- Using Ciloxan for long periods of time can lead to bacterial overgrowth.
- Tendon inflammation and rupture can occur with systemic ciprofloxacin use. Elderly patients and those who also receive corticosteroids may be at increased risk.
- Benzalkonium chloride is present in Ciloxan, which can cause irritation and skin reactions in some people.
Side Effects
Ringing in the ears is a possible Ciloxan side effect; however, other side effects can also occur. Call your doctor right away if you have side effects that bother you or won't go away.
