Description
Ceftin (cefuroxime axetil) is a prescription antimicrobial medication used to treat certain infections, including pharyngitis/tonsillitis, middle ear infections, maxillary sinusitis, uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, uncomplicated gonorrhea, early Lyme disease, impetigo, and worsening chronic bronchitis and secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis.
Ceftin 250 mg and 500 mg tablets are available for oral administration. In addition, Ceftin 125 mg/5 mL and 250 mg/5 mL oral suspension is also available.

Ingredients
Cefuroxime axetil, a cephalosporin, is the active ingredient in Ceftin.
Contraindications
Do not take Ceftin if you have had a serious allergic reaction (i.e., anaphylaxis) to Ceftin or other certain antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins.
Cautions
- Before you begin treatment with Ceftin antibiotic, inform your doctor of:
- All the medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your health problems and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. Seek emergency care right away if you have swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; trouble breathing; a rash; or a rapid heart rate.
- Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea can occur with Ceftin treatment.
Side Effects
Common side effects associated with Ceftin include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction, and vaginitis. These are not the only side effects that may occur. Immediately notify your doctor of any worrisome or persistent side effects that you experience while being treated with Ceftin.
