Description
Byetta is a prescription medication used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains the active ingredient exenatide, a synthetic version of a hormone called incretin, which enhances the body's ability to regulate blood sugar levels.
Byetta is not insulin but works by stimulating the pancreas to increase insulin levels when blood sugar is high. It also reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver and slows down the rate at which food empties from the stomach, helping to control appetite and reduce food intake.
