Description
Buckley’s Complete is a syrup for oral administration that contains acetaminophen and menthol to help alleviate cold and flu symptoms such as cough, sore throat, headache, nasal congestion, fever and chills, sinus congestion, and body aches and pains in adults.
Acetaminophen works by relieving pain and reducing fever while menthol works to suppress coughing and alleviate congestion.
Buckley’s Complete comes in 150 mL and 250 mL bottles.
Directions
Take Buckley’s Complete as instructed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns about the medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not use Buckley’s Complete if the ends of the carton are broken or torn.
Recommended Buckley’s Complete dosage:
Shake the bottle well before taking the syrup.
Take 1 teaspoonful (5 mL) by mouth every 4 to 6 hours. If your symptoms have not improved after taking the first dose, you may take 2 teaspoons (10 mL) at the time of the next dose. Do not take more than 12 teaspoons (60 mL) in 24 hours.
Ingredients
Each teaspoonful (5 mL) contains 325 mg of acetaminophen and 20 mg of menthol.
Inactive ingredients include ammonium carbonate, butylparaben, camphor, Canada balsam, carrageenan, caramel colour, glycerin, pine needle oil, polyethylene glycol, propylparaben, sodium cyclamate, tincture of capsicum, and water.
Contraindications
Do not take Buckley’s Complete if you are allergic to acetaminophen or to any of the medication’s other ingredients.
Do not take Buckley’s Complete with other medications that contain acetaminophen, or with other cough/cold medications. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure whether a medication contains acetaminophen.
Do not take more than 12 teaspoons (60 mL) in 24 hours. Taking more than the recommended maximum dose, taking Buckley’s Complete with other medications that contain acetaminophen, or taking Buckley’s Complete while consuming 3 or more alcoholic beverages a day can cause liver damage that may become fatal.
Do not give Buckley’s Complete to children younger than 12 years old.
Cautions
- Before you start taking Buckley’s Complete, inform your doctor of:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health conditions and past medical history
- Kidney or liver disease
- Persistent or chronic cough
- Trouble breathing
- Asthma or other chronic lung conditions
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Acetaminophen may cause serious skin reactions that can result in symptoms such as skin reddening, blisters, and rash. Stop taking Buckley’s Complete and seek medical care right away if any of these symptoms occur.
- If you have pain lasting longer than 5 days, a fever lasting longer than 3 days, a sore throat lasting more than 2 days, or if your symptoms are getting worse or you have a high fever, persistent headaches, or thick yellow/green phlegm, contact your doctor right away.
- Call a doctor or Poison Control Centre right away if you or someone you know has overdosed on Buckley’s Complete, even if there are no signs or symptoms.
- Store Buckley’s Complete at room temperature.
Side Effects
There are no side effects listed on the product label; however, contact your doctor right away if you think you may be experiencing side effects from Buckley’s Complete.
