Description
Ophthalmic betaxolol is prescribed to treat glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition caused by increased pressure in the eye, which gradually leads to vision loss.
Ophthalmic betaxolol comes as an eye drop.
Directions
Use betaxolol eye drops exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any questions or concerns you have about the medication.
Betaxolol eye drops are typically used two times a day. Wash your hands before and after use.
Wait at least 10 minutes between using other topical eye products and betaxolol eye drops.
Do not let the tip of the container touch any surface; this will help avoid contamination.
Ophthalmic betaxolol should be stored at room temperature. Keep the medication away from children.
Ingredients
Betaxolol eye drops contain betaxolol, a beta-blocker.
Contraindications
Patients with an allergy to betaxolol should not use the medication. In addition, patients with sinus bradycardia, heart block greater than first degree, cardiogenic shock, or heart failure should not use betaxolol eye drops.
Cautions
- Before you begin treatment with betaxolol eye drops, talk to your doctor about:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take, including other eye medications
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Ophthalmic betaxolol should be used cautiously in patients with diabetes, as the medication can mask signs and symptoms of low blood sugar.

- Before undergoing any surgeries or procedures, tell your doctor that you are using betaxolol eye drops.
- The same adverse effects associated with systemic beta-blocker use may also occur with ophthalmic betaxolol use.
