Farxiga vs Jardiance: Comparing Diabetes Treatments

Farxiga vs Jardiance: Comparing Diabetes Treatments

A string is all that keeps a kite from being carried away high in the sky, and the same will apply for birthday balloons full of helium. They will disappear into the big blue so fast if they are not tethered down some way, and some weight is needed if gravity is going to insist that what goes up must come down. There is nothing figuratively tying down your blood glucose levels if you are a Type 2 diabetic, but they need to come down all the same. So here we are going to compare Farxiga vs Jardiance as medication for making that happen.

We can start by comparing these two medications by clarifying that while they are food blood sugar control, they are both indicated for more of associated health risks connected to Type 2 diabetes. With Farxiga the aim is to reduce the risk of hospitalization from heart failure, while with Jardiance it is to reduce risk of fatality from heart attacks, stroke, and heart failure. Now of course staying in a hospital is always going to be preferable to dying but let us not get sidetracked here in comparing Jardiance vs Farxiga.

The active ingredients in these medication – Dapagliflozin (Farxiga) and Empagliflozin (Jardiance) – are in the same class of drugs, and some people would suggest that means they will work the same way and be equally effective for Type 2 diabetes treatment. Both make your kidneys remove sugar from your blood and then have it excreted through urine. This same functionality is central to Farxiga vs Jardiance but when we look at them more critically there are differences that might make one better than the other for you.

Taking Considerations

As we mentioned there the biggest consideration when your doctor makes a choice between Farxiga vs Jardiance is whether or not you have more of one of the associated health risks or another. If you are a Type 2 diabetic who is seen to have a higher risk of stroke or heart attack it is likely, you will be put on Jardiance and getting your prescription filled in Canada to save money on it. If heart failure is more the looming possibility for you then you will be getting a Farxiga from Canada instead.

Another consideration will be side effects that are common with one or the other of these Type 2 diabetes treatment medications. If you have bad joints because of rheumatoid arthritis or another degenerative condition, then your doctor will probably make it clear that Jardiance is known to cause joint pain as a side effect. If back pain is an ongoing issue like it is for so many older overweight North Americans, then it will be good to know Farxiga can cause back when comparing Farxiga vs Jardiance.

There can be more to this comparison but as is always the case you should only go so far into it before realizing that physicians have way more of a handle on this than you ever will. Type 2 diabetes is manageable, and you will be directed towards the right medication that will help you get your blood sugar under control.
