Does Dermaplaning Cause Acne

Does Dermaplaning Cause Acne

Skin is always going to have pores, and you wouldn’t want to have it any other way. Your skin would be in a bad way without them. Sometimes you need to take the bad with the good, and for teenagers the way skin pores get clogged up with sebum is definitely the bad part. The blackheads that result from this clogging are the primary symptoms of acne, which is more than just having pimples. Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure where a blade is used to remove dead skin buildup, but does dermaplaning cause acne?

That’s what we’re going to look at here with this blog entry. Dermaplaning is an increasingly popular procedure because of the way people who’ve had it report seeing a very immediate rejuvenation of their facial skin. Other people like to have dermaplaning done to their facial skin because they say it makes creams and serums be more thoroughly absorbed by the skin. There’s also a belief that it is safer than chemical peels and less expensive than laser skin resurfacing. And alternately some ask is dermaplaning good for acne reduction.

We can cut right to the chase there and say that dermaplaning is not going to reduce acne at all, and in fact it may make it worse. As it relates to can dermaplaning cause acne, the procedure can increase inflammation of the skin temporarily, and this inflammation just fuels the fire of the acne response caused by clogged pores and pustules on the skin occurring because of it. Skin with acne is already more prone to infection in affected pores, and dermaplaning can increase the chance of this happening.

Fresh Breakout

Moving along with does dermaplaning cause acne, the consensus is that it can make people experience a fresh breakout if they are prone to getting acne because of naturally oily skin. There are plenty of young adults who will be interested in getting the fast-acting skin benefits of dermaplaning, but if they still get acne regularly then they may want to think twice about dermaplaning. And when dermaplaning is done on active acne it can spread the bacteria and make acne worsen.

You should also skip dermaplaning if you’ve been using Accutane or any type of Tretinoin medication or acne treatment. The formulation of these medications will make facial skin much more sensitive and the negative effects of dermaplaning may be more pronounced if they do occur. Something to consider with does dermaplaning cause acne, but if you are set on getting the procedure done but need to be taking an acne treatment medication then Differin gel may be a better choice, but it may be a good idea to discuss this with a dermatologist first.

Differin is a retinoid though, and so it is best to stop using it for 5 days before you have your procedure done. In fact, it is best to stop using all facial products for this timeframe before your dermaplaning appointment. Let your skin do as it will for a short spell, and you’ll be prepared to have a better and more uneventful dermaplaning procedure. Does dermaplaning cause acne? If you have an active breakout, it can make it worsen.
