Can You Donate Eggs on Birth Control

Some women who are in their reproductive years may not want to become mothers yet but are also fine with helping others out if they’re currently struggling to become parents. They may be choosing to donate eggs because they’re feeling virtuous, or it may be for another reason. Either way it’s a very valuable contribution for women who aren’t able to conceive naturally for whatever reason. Some of the young women considering this may be asking can you donate eggs on birth control. We’ll provide an answer to that here.

The scenario of that certainly isn’t far-fetched. Even virtuous young women like to have a good time, and it may well be that the ones who are considering egg donation may be using an oral contraceptive so they can enjoy unprotected sex with men. Family planning is important and no one is going to be disputing that, but in the interest of the recipients it is going to be important to have that assurance that nothing will be different with the eggs because of the medication use.

They are the ones who are more likely to really want to know can you be on birth control and donate eggs, because it’s their future children’s health that will possibly be affected by this. And to be fair most of the donors will also want to know that their health is not adversely affected by using birth control medications. So, without going on any further let’s get right to making you informed around can you donate eggs while on birth control.

Just the Same

Birth control medications target estrogen and progestin hormone levels to prevent an egg from being fertilized or able to attach itself to the wall of the uterus. But they don’t alter a woman’s fertility at all, so the eggs that are coming from her ovaries are going to be just as healthy and viable as ones produced when she’s not using an oral contraceptive. So, there it is for can you donate eggs on birth control, as there is no risk to it at all.

If a woman is donating eggs or having her own frozen for future conception, she can go ahead with that, and she will not need to stop taking birth control medication. That second situation isn’t that far-fetched either, as many women are choosing to focus on their careers and see themselves becoming mothers at an older maternal age. Others will more simply be trying to keep their 20s going as long as possible, although they’ll be less likely to ask can you donate eggs on birth control.

The last thing to stress for any woman who is considering this is to make sure you’re in good overall health and taking a prenatal vitamin plus avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Using reproductive assistance drugs may be required for even the healthiest of women but good overall health leads to healthy ovulation. This is just as important as can you donate eggs on birth control.
