Description
Rybelsus is a GLP-receptor agonist prescription medication. It is used for treatment of Type 2 diabetes and works to manage blood sugar levels. However, it works very differently from similar diabetes medications in that it has a unique 3-way approach to lowering blood sugar. The advantage of Rybelsus is that it promotes increased insulin production from the pancreas, decreases sugar released from the liver, and slows the release of food from the stomach after eating.
GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like Peptide 1, and Rybelsus works like your body's naturally occurring GLP-1 to lower blood sugar. Rybelsus is not to be used as a primary treatment for Type 2 diabetes, and instead should be used to supplement other primary diabetic medications as only as directed by a physician.
